Cutting edge herd management systems

ScanSouth owner and operator, Greg Wisnesky, is a hands-on Dairy NZ calf advisor and BCS accessor working closely with herd managers.

Cows are scanned when they are in for milking, ensuring minimal disruption and stress to the normal herd routine.

Modern reporting is robust, able to identify and diagnose a range of underlying animal health issues.

A background in deer scanning

The first time Greg thought about ultrasound pregnancy testing for cows was in 1991.

He was working at AgResearch Invermay, learning about using ultrasound to measure conception rates in deer.

At the same time, cervical artificial insemination embryo transfer programmes were also just being developed.

Greg connected and worked with an early pioneer in the field, Dr Doug Fowler at CSIRO Australia.

Greg initially started with a probe, but determined to perfect his method to be as minimally invasive as possible, he worked hard over many seasons to get his approach down to a finely tuned art.

Today, the technology has come a long way. It is faster and more efficient, prioritising animal welfare and herd health.

Trusted livestock ultrasound professionals

"What began as a curiosity has become a lifelong passion. I’ve spent years learning, refining technique, equipment, and training methods to ensure accuracy, animal welfare, and efficiency."
